Snowing

First Day in Shiga Kogen

Again, I didn't sleep brilliantly. Still stiff and sore from all the activity and would absolutely love a softer bed.

Had breakfast at 7:30am. Seemed a reasonable selection of Western and Japanese items and most of the family were reasonably happy with the selection; it was certainly better than the night time fare which was pretty ordinary.

We organised to pick up the the ski passes that we purchased on line and got them at 8:30am in time for Conrad to hit the snow. He immediately went up the hill opposite the hotel and unfortunately lost the extendable handle for his DJI Action 3 camera (like a GoPro). Julie came out and went with him for the rest of the day.

Clare and I went on the big gondala back to the bus stop and main shop to check the scenery and then went the opposite way up two different gondala's until we reached the "Roof Top" cafe which is located at 2000 metres above sea level. There was pretty much a complete white out up there and all the trees were absolutely covered in snow.

We ended up having lunch at the Roof Top cafe and it turned out to be Swiss. We had fondue with prawns and scallops, mulled wine and the best hot chocolate.

Took some more pictures outside.

And headed back down when we met Conrad and Julie half way down.

We got back to the hotel, and it seemed just about everyone decided to chill in our room, while I went down stairs to soak in the Onsen (spa) downstairs. Conrad had a bit of a spill (apparently on film) and hurt his elbow.

At 6:00pm we went for dinner again and everyone was disappointed. Conrad refused to eat thinking it was all bad. Julie didn't come to dinner and Kim only had boiled rice and a piece of cake. The food really is ordinary. I was the only one who liked everything.

Now we're just chilling until bed time while I catch up with this blogging business.
