Friday 15 - Drive to Chamonix and Annecy via Switzerland

Today, we left early-ish, about 8:00-8:30am, and drove down to Basel in Switzerland. We had to hop into Germany for a few kays and then into Switzerland (Basel). Naturally, we lost our mobile signal again.

The weather was very grey and drizzly. It cleared up about halfway through Switzerland at lake Geneva and Montreaux (as seen in the opening picture above). After that, we went on the windiest back road ever, over the Alps and into Chamonix.

We went up the Auguille du Midi Gondola, which was very fast. It's a two stage Gondola where we have to change lifts half way up. It's apparently the tallest Gondala ride in the world and ends about 12,000 feet up. Unfortunately, the top was in the clouds and we had no view. I must be terribly unfit as I was continually dizzy and feeling off up at that height.

After Chamonix, we drove to the resort town of Annecy, which is on the edge of Lake Annecy and stayed at the hotel Le Tressoms. An amazing place with pool, spa and other facilities. I'd definately like to come back here and stay longer.

We had dinner in the Brasserie in the Hotel, which was way too fancy to be called a brasserie. An excellent meal.
