Monday 25 - Second day in Paris

Written by: | Posted on: | Region / City:

An early start to the day with a bus ride to Montparnasse and breakfast at "Le Ciel de Paris" at the "Tour Montparnasse" (meh!).

By meh!, I mean it was the worst food experience of the whole trip. The location was amazing with one of the best views of the Eiffel Tower and the "Parc du Champ de Mars".

But the food, which was breakfast, seemed to be made with no love at all. It seemed pre-made (days before). McDonalds does a better breakfast, that is how ordinary it was, and I do not rate McDonalds at all. It was such a shock because we've had nothing but great food anywhere we've been, and this is supposed to be a top class and highly regarded restaurant. We were considering having dinner here at one stage, but no longer as we can't trust that they'd do a passable job. Really disappointed.

After breakfast, we caught the bus back to the hotel and it went up the Rue de Rennes from Tour Montparnasse. We didn't get far when we noticed the bus going past a bag shop, so we got off and did some Bag shopping, as we needed at least two more suitcases to bring all the souvenires home.

After shopping for bags and back at the hotel. Annie and I stopped for a coffee at the Italian cafe across the road (and also so Annie could have a vape). Clare had to go back into the room to freshen up.

Boat Ride

From the Hotel, we strolled down the Boulevarde Henri IV on the way to the Seine river and caught a ride on the Batobus. The Batobus is a water bus that goes up and down the Seine stopping at about 12 places where you can get on and off the water bus all day as you want. We bought a two day ticket for 18 Euros, but we didn't use it the next day.

Unfortunately, Annie wasn't feeling very well today and the boat trip made her feel even more seedy.

Le Train Bleu

That evening, Clare and I went to Le Train Bleu, a restaurant in the train station Gare de Lyon. Annie decided she didn't want a big meal and stayed at the hotel and went to KFC; she regretted that food decision later 😂

Clare and I were feeling a bit lazy and decided to take the Metro instead of walking. It was only a one stop ride to the Gare de Lyon, but it was worth it as I didn't know the Metro station at Bastile was under the Place de la Bastille and over looking the Canal Saint Martin, more specifically the Port de l'Arsenal, which was the marina you can park your river boat in when your visiting Paris for a really reasonable fee. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures.

Once we got to the Gare de Lyon station, we had a lot of trouble finding the Le Train Bleu restaurant. Even the Gendarmes didn't know where it was. We eventually found it, it was hiding behind a lot of scaffolding which was renovating the outside of the restaurant for the upcoming Olympics.

The interior of this restaurant is amazing.
