Sunday 24 - First Full day in Paris

I'm tired, but WE'RE IN PARIS. Yay!   The opening picture, above, was taken at about 2:20pm while we were walking around the Marais and checking out the shops and free museums. Unfortunately, as we were tired, we were slack and didn't take many pictures. Nor did we really do much; a bit of a wasted day.

We slept in a bit as we were quite tired. Our hotel (Speria) was just off the Rue St. Antoine, so we went to the cafe on the nearby corner to Le Bistrot D'Antoine at 10 Rue St Antoine for breakfast.

We noticed many people going past with shopping trolleys coming from the direction of the Place de la Bastille; was there a market nearby on the other side of the Bastille? So we went to check it out while Annie went back to her room.

And indeed there was a Sunday market on the Boulevard Richard Lenoir. And it was huge, there was so much to see. I ended up buying a nice cashmir scarfe. Not because I needed one, they were just nice.

After looking around for a while (and not really having seen enough of the market), we headed back to the hotel to see what Annie was up to. I was really feeling the tiredness of the last day or so, so I went to bed to have a rest, while Clare and Annie went back to the market to check it out.

Up again, I think it was about 1 ish or so, and we went for a walk around the neighbourhood along the rue St Antoine and checked out the hotel de Sully (opening picture above) and went through the tiny entrance (top right of the courtyard) to the Place des Voges. We then strolled along the Rue des Francs-Bourgeois until we got to the Rue de Turenne and stopped for a late lunch (2:49pm) at a cafe called Royal Turenne.

Clare had a really nice Charcuterie board for lunch.

Later that evening, we went to dinner across the road from the hotel to an Italian restaurant called Auberge de Venise Bastille. After dinner, we had a coffee and Annie classified it as the first reasonable cup of coffee she had in France; only natural I suppose as we're used to Italian style coffee here in Australia.
