Sunday 17 - First day on the Canal du Midi

Capestang to Argens-Minervois

Dull, dull day; she is not a sunny day at all. Oh well.

Took off reasonably early and had a breakfast that was typical for the rest of the boat journey, which was Coffee, Croissants & Pain u Chocolait, which we ate as we sail along.

Immediately, we ventured under the lowest bridge on the canal at Capestang, which was fairly easy and uneventful as we had a fairly small 32ft Linssen.

Lunch

We stopped for Lunch at La Somail, a fairly well known highlight on the Canal, which is known for both the Antiquarian bookshop and a green Barge that sells groceries to all the boat fraternity.

We had a bit of a walk around but unfortunately couldn’t go into the bookshop as it just closed for lunch (2 hours). So, we went to the green grocery barge and purchased some supplies, also for lunch.

So lunch was a nice relaxed meat and cheese platter with a glass of wine.

Afternoon

The afternoon was time spent getting acquainted with the handling of the boat. Clare would sit at the front and take pictures and chill, I’d steer (as I didn’t trust anyone else) and Chris would sit on the back deck and Crochet (a task she always did to chill out). Jim would often go below into the dinette and catch up on work back home or sit up on deck to relax.

We had only one lock to contend with on the first day, and that was just 200 meters from docking for the day, which was at Argens-Minervois, which is also the base for LocaBoat.

The Marina at Argens-Minervois was huge but only had a small entrance, and once inside, we had to reverse park against the dock.

We went to dinner and I had my first cassoulet at restaurant la Guinguette . What an amazing tasting dish and a truly fantastic restaurant.
